INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP
In your main project folder
create 3 folders: input, working, output
- Top
menus
- Option menus
- Tool Box / Tool Bar
- Palettes
NAVIGATION
To increase the view size of the image hold
apple and press + (plus) to zoom in and - (minus) to zoom out. Area in
view represented with a red box in the Navigator palette.
SIZE - to adjust the size and
resolution of the image (image>image size)
*300 ppi resolution for print
*72 ppi resolution for web
Change size of image in inches
to approximate the original file size of the image.
MODE - to adjust the image colors
for print or for web, you can choose different color formats. RGB
colors for TV & web. CMYK colors for printing. Grayscale for
B&W.
LEVELS - to
adjust bright, dark and medium values of the image (apple L or
Image>Adjustments>Levels)
HUE - to adjust the hue and saturation on the image. No
saturation=B&W image (apple U or
image>Adjustments>hue/saturation)
VARIATIONS - allows to adjust shadows, midtones,
highlights and saturation by adding CMYK colors each one
(image>adjustments>Variations…)
SELECTING - use the selecting tool (M) in 2 styles square
and circular. By holding SHIFT down while making a circle it will make a
proportional circle. This tool is also called Marquee tool.
LASSO - there are 3 types of
lasso - Regular Lasso, Polygonal Lasso and Magnetic Lasso. You can
adjust the sensitivity (edge contrast) and the frequency of the anchor
points in the Magnetic Lasso.
FEATHERING - for soft edges you can adjust the softness by
increasing the number of pixels.
CROP - in tool box allows you to cut a selected section of the
image
LAYERS PALETTE -
the option menu for the layers palette in on the right top corner and is
a small circle with an arrow in the center. A menu opens that allows
you to create new layers, duplicate layers, merge layers, create folders
(group) and more.
TRANSFORM
- (apple T) gives you the handles on the selected image to change size
and rotate the selected part of the image. Under Edit>transform it
also allows you to skew, distort, and even wrap the image. Before using
transform you have to select what to transform with your select tool.
FILTERS - they are under
filters at the top menu.
MASKING
- it's in the layer pallet at the bottom. Masking can be a little
tricky, so you can check this site bellow - it has a step by step sample

SAVING YOUR IMAGES
-under File > save for web…
-Save as JPEG. You can choose
from multiple choices: high or very high quality, progressive and
optimized.
-Give name and
place within the corresponding folder (DEV or OUTPUT)
-for printing;
-Under file>save as…
-Select and save as Photoshop EPS
or TIFF file
