INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP

In your main project folder create 3 folders: input, working, output

- Top menus

- Option menus

- Tool Box / Tool Bar

- Palettes

NAVIGATION

To increase the view size of the image hold apple and press + (plus) to zoom in and - (minus) to zoom out. Area in view represented with a red box in the Navigator palette.

SIZE - to adjust the size and resolution of the image (image>image size)

*300 ppi resolution for print

*72 ppi resolution for web

Change size of image in inches to approximate the original file size of the image.

MODE - to adjust the image colors for print or for web, you can choose different color formats. RGB colors for TV & web. CMYK colors for printing. Grayscale for B&W.

LEVELS - to adjust bright, dark and medium values of the image (apple L or Image>Adjustments>Levels)

HUE - to adjust the hue and saturation on the image. No saturation=B&W image (apple U or image>Adjustments>hue/saturation)

VARIATIONS - allows to adjust shadows, midtones, highlights and saturation by adding CMYK colors each one (image>adjustments>Variations…)

SELECTING - use the selecting tool (M) in 2 styles square and circular. By holding SHIFT down while making a circle it will make a proportional circle. This tool is also called Marquee tool.

LASSO - there are 3 types of lasso - Regular Lasso, Polygonal Lasso and Magnetic Lasso. You can adjust the sensitivity (edge contrast) and the frequency of the anchor points in the Magnetic Lasso.

FEATHERING - for soft edges you can adjust the softness by increasing the number of pixels.

CROP - in tool box allows you to cut a selected section of the image

LAYERS PALETTE - the option menu for the layers palette in on the right top corner and is a small circle with an arrow in the center. A menu opens that allows you to create new layers, duplicate layers, merge layers, create folders (group) and more.
